How to use Fields, Calculations, Constants, & Logic

Overview

This article will explain how fields, calculations, constants, and logic is used to create forms.

Fields

1.  Fields can be added to your from using the yellow plus icon.
2.  They are the questions or elements of your from.  Different field types will have different attributes.
3.  The Field Name can be used in logic or calculations.

Calculations

1.  Calculations can be added to your from using the yellow plus icon.
2.  The Result Name can be used in logic or other calculations.  Important: When used, Result Names must be curly brackets.  {CalculationName} .  This is how the software recognizes it as a calculation result rather than an Field Name.
3.  Calculations have additional attributes.  Hover your mouse over an attribute for additional instructions.  Example: The below calculation result will add virtual guest passes to a membership.

Constants

1.  Add a Constant as a way organize your fees or common text.  These are values that change over time.  If your guest pass fee changes form $5 to $7.  The fee will change thought your template.
2.  Important: When used, Constants must use a # Symbol.  #Name .  This is how the software recognizes it as a Constant rather than an Field Name or Result Name.

Logic

1.  Use Logic in calculations

2.  Use Logic to hide/unhide fields.

3. Click the blue Info Icon to read AGS's logic specifications.

Logic Tips
  1. Using Boolean (truth field) in calculations
    1. Will return 1 as TRUE.
    2. Will return 0 as FALSE.
    3. The text true returns 1 (TRUE).
    4. The text false returns 0 (FALSE)
  2. Using Boolean (truth field) in hide/unhide calculations
    1. Will return TRUE for the number 1 or any number other than zero.
    2. Will return FALSE for the number 0.
  3. SELECT field
    1. You can use the answer's text in logic.
    2. You can use the answer's numerical order choice in logic.
      1. Example: The applicant chose the 3rd membership type listed which was "Family Membership".
        1. type== "Family Membership" will return TRUE.
        2. type==3 will return TRUE.
  4. Formatting, don't forget...
    1. {CurlyBrackets} must  be used for any Calculation result.
    2. #PoundSymbols are used prior to any Constant.
    3. NoFormating is needed for Form Fields.
